Garmin 550 Multifunction GPS Receiver
It's easy to upload tracks to MapSource just plug your GPS unit into
the computer, and click on the Receive from Device icon (or go to
Transfer Receive from Device on the menu bar). You can't download
tracks directly to Google Earth - you must save the track as a GPX file
(using MapSource), then use a program like to convert the file to KMZ or KML.
If your destination was here in the USA, you could use to plan your route & download it to your zumo using the
for IE & Firefox. Unfortunately, MapQuest doesn't look like it
does routing in Europe. I dont know where you re planning to be in
Europe, but it looks like
does do routing in Europe I did a test route from Paris, France to
London, UK. The thing with Google Maps is that it doesnt currently
support route downloads to Garmin devices just way points. There is a
third party work-around for this, called.
It's somewhat kludgy, but it does work if you want to use Google Maps
to plan your routes and then port it over to your Garmin. You'll still
need to have the Garmin Communicator Plugin installed.
Note
Since your GPS unit really only cares about what the way points are and
what order they are in, the downloaded route should work fine with your
downloaded Europe map from Garmin. The GPS unit will calculate its own
path from point A to point B to point C, and it may not exactly coincide
with the route that Google Maps chose. If you want your route to be
exact, you ll have to add additional waypoints in Google Maps so that
they get added to the route build.
